Penang Food Hunt #57: Bukit Mertajam Cup Rice 大山脚盖饭, Jalan Danby

It's a new day and we are ready to march on to KL. Woke up early in the morning to send Charles to the airport as he wanted to return to Kuching earlier. We headed back to the hotel to get some sleep first before we left. Done packing our luggage, it's time for brunch! We drove straight to Bukit Mertajam for the delicious Cup Rice!
The very friendly lady owner allowing us to take photos of her preparing the dishes.
Saw the rice in bowls steaming inside?

This is why it's called cup rice.

Meats!

Lots of chunky pieces of chicken, roasted pork, bbq pork etc.

Finally, meal is ready to be served with the gravy flooding the rice and meat!

Doesn't it look so good?? Tasted so good too!!

Penang Food Hunt #56: Humble Beginnings, Straits Quay

According to the western culture, a meal is best ended with desserts. Despite the fact we were terribly full after dinner,  that did not stop us from pursuing our desserts at Humble Beginnings. We got there late, so left with not much choices. Ordered whatever that were available then.
Chocolate Velvet (RM9.90)
Peanut Butter Blueberry (RM9.90)
Pandan Kaya (RM9.90)
Almond Bitter Cheese (RM8.90). Got ourselves slice of cake as well. Seems like the cake taste better than crepes. Hehe...
Cookies and Cream (RM9.90)
After tasting famous mille crepes from both Melaka's and Penang's,  all claimed that Nadeje's mille crepes were better. In terms of texture and taste, the crepes layers of Nadeje's were softer and smoother,  with each layers attaching even being cut.  While crepes here would detach when we sliced them.

Penang Food Hunt #55: Lebuh Presgrave

Hey there.. Excited about what's for dinner? We decided to go for Hokkien Mee for the night. Having 2 options in mind, Old Green House amd 888, we opt for the later as it was nearer to our hotel.
One of the specialty here is the huge bowl of Ice Kacang.

Yummeh Wanton Noodles is a must-try too!

Lor Mee

Hokkien Mee

Mix of Lor Mee and Hokkien Mee.

Well. Some prefer Hokkien Mee, but some prefer Lor Mee's taste.

Penang Food Hunt #54: Padang Kota Lama

2nd lunch up next! Having just Assam Laksa was not enough! Drove all the way from Ayer Itam to Padang Kota Lama for the awesome tasting Mee Sotong! ♡♡
Mee Sotong Goreng from Hameed. Spicy yet can't help stopping from eating.

Must get yourself at least a glass of Coconut Milkshake next door. Delicious and refreshing!

Big boys having fun at the playground after a superb meal.  😅

Penang Food Hunt #53: Ayer Itam Laksa

Okie.. Our lunch spot is not far from Penang Hill. Passing by Ayer Itam, we might as well drop by for the famous Ayer Itam's Laksa. After catching a table among the crowds, we immediately orderee our drinks while waiting for them to take our food orders.
Having bowls of desserts from another stall nearby.

Cendol. Not bad.

Longan Jelly.

Finally came the delicious bowl of Penang Laksa. Kinda appetising due to its slight sourish yet filled with thick anchiovies and sambal mixed sauce. William enjoyed this alot although he claimed he was very full. LOL!

Up! in Penang Hill

Well... It can't be just all about eating in Penang. Decided to visit Penang Hill to pass time. :D
Got there around 11.. Wasn't easy to find parking thou. Parked quite far and had to walk our way there. Sweating madly..

Hell lot of people. Took quite some time for the queue. Nvm.. We have plenty of time.

Tourists?

Finally it's our turn to hop onto the train!

Up we go! *feeling excited*

Reached to the top. It was a bit gloomy that day.

View of Penang Island from Penang Hill!

More to see up ahead.

Got myself some chickpeas from this stall.

There's also police station here.

Nice place to enjoy nature.

Love locks! Not only available in Paris ya~

Sorry about my frowning face. It was really bright that I could hardly open my eyes.

Catching their spots on the first train used years back.

My turn~~~ Getting into the first class seat~

Ivy was getting her artistic tatoo.

Quite nice.. They were really good and fast at it.

That's about it on our trip to Penang Hill. Had to head down for lunch!

Penang Food Hunt #52: Genting Cafe

Well well well.. What do we have here? It's none other than Penang's Char Kway Teow! This was the first Char Kway Teow George had during his first visit to Penang and he was totally impressed by it till now. Fragrantly stir-fried with duck egg, it was topped with lots of ingredients like cockles, prawns, chinese sausahe etc. So good~
This was our first try on the Curry Mee. Quite good too. As you can see, lots of ingredients were served along too. Kinda spicy thou.

In KL, this is called Hokkien Mee. But in Penang, if you order Hokkien Mee, sorry, you eill end up being served something totally different. This is called Tai Luk Mee in Penang. Fried in sweet soy sauce, the noodles were perfect in taste with the "wok-hei" aroma. Served with fried pork lard some more.

Springy tangy Wanton Noodles. Very nice!

Ok. Here comes the most awaited dish!  Best Chee Cheong Fun in Penang!! Chewy freshly made rolls served with the awesome 4-flavored sauce! Can't find any place serving better than this. All my friends claimed this is the top in their lists as well!

Otak-otak. Only dish that disappointed us in Genting Cafe.

Lastly, we also got hold of the instantly made warm mochi from the uncle just outside the cafe.

Soft yet chewy and topped with lots of peanuts!
