Penang Food Hunt #54: Padang Kota Lama

2nd lunch up next! Having just Assam Laksa was not enough! Drove all the way from Ayer Itam to Padang Kota Lama for the awesome tasting Mee Sotong! ♡♡

Melaka Food Hunt #1: Klebang Coconut Shake

It's a hot afternoon, so the 1st place in Melaka we hunt for was the famous Klebang Coconut Shake. It was also recommended by Kevin's Melaka friend. With Waze and the vision of the long queue, the place was easily spotted.  

The queue was no joke.

After queuing for some time, just realize that they also have a dine-in section. Outside is only for take-away.

Shorter queues inside, but also as crowded, we got ourselves a table and were served with Nasi Lemak immediately. Just joking.. Gary and Ivy who went inside earlier grabbed us packets of Nasi Lemak as almost all people around were seen indulging in it.

Nice little packet of Nasi Lemak which consisted of the fragrantly sweet and spicy Belacan, quartered hard-boiled egg and some ikan bilis. Yummy! 

Okay~ So after some waiting, here came our Coconut Shakes!

Blended Ice and Coconut, topped with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream. Good and cheap (RM2). 

HAHA!

Mag's Brithday @ Cafe Cafe

It was Magdalene's birthday eve. All of our former course mates decided to gather to celebrate her birthday. It was long since all of us can manage to spare some time to sit together and talk. All busy with our own stuffs. This time round, they planned to have a lunch gathering and celebration at Cafe Cafe. From the fusion menu offered, we also had a fusion of asian and western cuisines depending on what we preferred to eat.

Broccoli with Prawns and Mushrooms (RM22). 

Turkey Ham Salad with Apple Cider Vinegar (RM15). Topped with lots of grated parmesan cheese, the salad served in the apple cider vinegar was good except for the onions which I dislike. :P

Spaghetti Bolognese (RM16). Huge portion for this price.

Nyonya Kapitan Chicken Rice Set (RM16)

Beef Masak Hitam Rice Set (RM17). All the rice sets come with side dishes of keropok, fried okra and achar. Looking so yummy!

Tomato & Cincalok Omelette Fried Rice (RM15). Contained within the omelette, the fried rice portion was huge. Samson seemed to be enjoying his plate of fried rice a lot. 

Grilled Norwegian Salmon (RM28).

Deep Fried Breaded Chicken with Spicy Prawn Sauce (RM22). 

The long awaited Creamy Baked Chicken Chop Rice (RM19). Topped with cream sauce and cheese on top of the chicken chop, the buttery fragrant chicken rice was baked for quite some time before served. Although fragrant, it was kinda oily just like chicken rice.

Tuna Toast (RM13). Although it was stated as a side dish. this dish looked like a main course to me. Big big size and it looked so deliciously great with the creamy tuna and cheese on top of the toast! 

Finally with our lunch done, it's time for cake presentation session! Chocolate Coffee Cake from Mickey Cake House. Not bad. Not that sweet.

Dinner @ Cafe Cafe

After being much raved by bloggers and also me, my mum was eager to try out the foods at Cafe Cafe, so I took her here for dinner! As usual, the place was so packed despite it's a Wednesday night.

Chicken Salad (RM12). As I was on clean food normally on weekends, I did not want to go for too fattening dishes, so got myself the chicken salad in which I requested my sauce to be served separately. It was kinda huge in portion with the Chicken cooked in their special sauce which somehow looked like Rendang, but not. Good.

Mee Mamak (RM12). My mum saw some people recommending this dish, so she gave it a try. Big dish again! I think I took quite a lot. =.= Slightly spicy and sweet. Tasted quite good, but a little bit over-mushy. Would be better if it's drier. 

Nasi Briyani @ Buhari Cafe

According to George, this Buhari Cafe serves the best Nasi Briyani n Kuching, whether it's Ayam, Kambing or Lembu. It's located at the busy Satok area, along with the stretch of shop lots with KFC, facing the flyover. They really prepared tongs of nasi briyani. Business must be really good. 

Nasi Briyani Ayam (RM8). It was really quite good. Tender chicken meat with the fragrantly cooked rice.

Roti Canai (RM1.20). Their roti canai was good too! Crispy texture and goes best with their Dhal. 

They have other Mamak food choices like Mee Kari, Rojak, Nasi Campur with a few choices to select from, Murtabak and so on. All their foods have reasonable quality and taste, but as usual, Mamak or Malay foods are usually more pricey.

Fat Cat's Food for Breakfast!

So here we went again to Fat Cat for breakfast. Trying out new stuff of cos. :D

Kueh Chap (RM6). Claimed to originate from Carpenter Street's. Tasted different, but not bad la..

Chicken Rice (RM5-6). Well~ I do not really know how to differentiate tasty Chicken Rice as I think they all taste similar.

Roti Planta Cheese if not mistaken. Surprisingly good. Very crispy and I always like it to be sweet. :)

Nice Popiah (RM2.50/RM3) freshly made from Irene Delicacies.

Ayam Penyet @ My Village Barok Bistro

I supposed many Kuchingites had heard about My Village Barok Bistro for Ayam Penyet with their specially made spicy sauce. Ok, for those who are still unaware abt it, it's located at Kampung Boyan or whoever who are more familiar where Dayang Salhah Kek Lapis is, it's right there. You can either drive all the way there, following the Kampung Gersik signboard, or the fastest route would be taking sampan from Waterfront which would cost RM0.50/way.

Upon entering, you'll get to see their "stove". :D

Stumbled upon this and I said: "I must order this!"

Ayam Penyet with rice (RM8-10, couldn't quite remember). And yes, it did not fail to disappoint me. So tasty! Best Ayam Penyet I had before! Although I did not try many. Hehe.. Prior to my visit, George told me I might be disappointed by the high recommendations by many. But, hey, it did not. He said they used to give 3 types of sauces separately, but now, they seemed to mix it up altogether and coated the juicy Ayam Penyet. Yummy!

Mussels (RM12 or RM15 if not mistaken). So cheap and most importantly, it's DELICIOUS!! Coated with their spicy homemade sauce, cheesy sauce was squeezed on top of the freshly grilled mussels!

I will come back for more!

Best BBQ Chicken Wing @ Teh Tarik Kafeteria

I had mentioned before that one of the best BBQ chicken wings I had was at Matang. Now, the coffee shop is not available but relocated to the shoplot on the opposite side of the Matang Bridge of Kubah Ria. Along your way from town to Matang, Kubah Ria would be on your left, the shop lot would be on your right. Frequent road drivers will know about the place as the shop lot is located at the small roundabout when getting back to town from Matang. 

Our orders from the BBQ stall:

BBQ Chicken Butts (RM1.00 per stick). Although marinaded with the same Chicken Wings Sauce, the taste didn't really coat well or infuse into it. I still the best I had was in Penang. 

BBQ Chicken Wings (RM2.50 per wing). So so delicious! Sweetly marinaded wings with tolerable spiciness. Even my friends who do not take spicy food also could not stop themselves from having this!

Apart from BBQ Chicken Wings and Butts, there are other varieties of Malay Cuisines like Laksa, Satay, Ayam Penyet etc.

Rojak India. Tasted just ok.

Mee Sapi. Worth trying. :)

Sungkei Ria Ramadhan Buffet @ Cafe Majestic

In conjunction with the Ramadhan Month, Riverside Majestic Hotel is offering their buffet at RM87/pax, with daily rotating menu. As usual, the Wednesday and Saturday is Japanese-themed which means apart from having local Malaysian cuisines, they serve Japanese cuisines as well.

The welcoming dish : Grilled Lamb. Different sauces were available to choose from. The lamb was nicely smoked. Juicy and tender.

Malaysian Dessert! ABC! 

Malay Kuih-Muih. We were served Nyonya Kek Lapis, Kuih Seri Muka, Kuih Takei, Kuih Pandan etc.

Assorted Cakes, Mousses and Puddings. The Cheesecake was good. :D

Satay Celup. Selected food which includes selection of vegetables, meat slices etc. are cooked in the incredible Satay Sauce! Love it especially the meat slices with Satay Sauce!! Yummy!

There were also choices of fruits cuts which could be dipped into the sweet Chocolate Fondue, a noodle Station, Indian Stall for ordering Murtabak, Canai etc., Sashimi Stall, Japanese food like Teriyaki Beef which was great, Chawan Mushi, Hakusai Udon, some local Cuisines including Bubur Pedas, Kambing Kuzi and so much more.
