Yong Kwang Coffee Shop 荣光茶室

Yong Kwang Coffee Shop 荣光茶室 is an old coffee shop at Kenyalang, which serves a variety of nice hawker food including Kolo Mee, Chicken Rice, Stir-Fried Dishes, Rojak, Nyonya Kueh etc. This place is my usual hunt for Spare Part Mee. Haha! What do I mean by that?? See for yourself:

Spare Part Mee (RM4). Spare Part = Pork Innards. All the Pork Livers and Intestines! Love it! Of cos, you can go for other types of ingredients like Seafood or the normal Kolo Mee. The noodles were deliciously cooked as well, but sometimes the dish might go wrong as it might not be salty. Not really standardized. However, it could be very nice at some times.
Rojak. Not bad, but rather small portion.
The Nyonya Kueh here are very nice too like the Kuih Talam and Ham Chi Peng. Some of the kuehs are only available around 9am, but might finish around noon especially on weekends.

Green Hill Corner青山角

Green Hill Corner青山角  is a place to hunt for one of the best Beef Noodles in Kuching. Situated at the old corner shop, just opposite Star Cineplex, the place is well-known among local Kuchingites. Apart from having noodles, there are other local cuisines available.

Char Kway Teow (RM3.00/4.00). Although it looks simple and there wasn’t any ingredients , but I find the dish to be quite fragrant.
Char Kueh (RM3.00). Surprisingly good too.
So, here’s the famous Beef Noodle (RM4.00). Spongy and chewy noodles texture with beef chunks. Small portion though.

Beef Kueh Teow Soup (RM4.50). Instead of the dry noodles, the strong beef broth/soup  version was very satisfying especially to be consumed in a cool rainy day.
Beef / Chicken Satay (RM0.50-0.60/stick) and Ketupat. The Beef Satay was my liking. J

Rock Road Seafood Restaurant

Rock Road Seafood Restaurant is one of the Chinese Restaurants which I would keep going to. As usual, we took our orders at the ground floor and seated at the first floor.

Served with these preserved cabbages as appetizers before our main course.
Thai-style bidin. Instead of having the usual Stir-fried Bidin with Belacan, we went for this. Nice. J
Roasted Duck with Mantou. This is one dish that I find it very nice in Rock Road recently. Every bite of it gives the crunchiness of the duck skin with juicy and flavorful duck meat. The soft mantou served was also very nice. Not many places served good Roasted Duck. Heard that Li Garden is good, but I never try before.
Aha.. This is a must in every visit. :P The Famous Crab in Hainanese Style (Satay Sauce).
The deep-fried mantou which were served together with the crab went along very well with the “Satay” Sauce of the crab.
Another highly-recommended dish by me! Haha! The Seafood Tart. Yum Yum!

Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Wings

There were also choices of fruits cuts which could be dipped into the sweet Chocolate Fondue, a noodle Station, Indian Stall for ordering Murtabak, Canai etc., Sashimi Stall, Japanese food like Teriyaki Beef which was great, Chawan Mushi, Hakusai Udon, some local Cuisines including Bubur Pedas, Kambing Kuzi and so much more.
Part of our hunt!
All the Sashimis!! <3
Cakes to end our meal! :D

Fun and memorable trip to an undercover food paradise, Kampung Siniawan

Why do I say it’s a fun and memorable trip? It all began when we were on the wrong route to Kampung Siniawan. We were supposed to take the old Kuching-Bau Road, but we were on the new road. We only realised we took the longer track when we were quite far ahead, so instead of getting back to the old road which would take us more time, we headed to the road with a road sign to “Kampung Siniawan”. Kinda adventurous, aren’t we? Well.. Actually I was referring to Waze which showed that the place seemed reachable by that way. Waze eventually showed that we had reached our destination about 10 mins drive, but we did not see any signs of the town, so we stopped by to ask the locals. Then, he said, it’s just ahead, but you have to cross the river. We were all stunned!! We were all too hungry to go one round using the other route, so we just parked there, like many others did, and took sampan. LOL!

On the boat. We paid RM0.50/person to get across.
So, here we are!

Singing stage. You eventually have to pay to sing. Haha.
Some of the stores there:

Only open on Friday and Saturday night.
Gui Ling Gao as a hot day remedy
Rojak
Deep-fried Yam Kueh. Nice~
Kueh Chap (RM4). Very good. Strong herbal smell!
Deep-fried fish-paste tofu and nice Chai Kueh.
ABC. Surprisingly delicious.
Kolo Mee
BBQ 3 Layer Pork (RM10). Awesome!!
The food here were all quite up to standard. Didn't expect such great food in this small town. Heard that the peng hu was good too, but we were there too late. :(

The sampan we took. Hehe~
